Evaristo co-founded Britain's first Black women's theatre company in 1982 and published eight books before Girl, Woman, Other made her the first Black woman to win the Booker Prize, at sixty. She calls her form 'fusion fiction' and has spent decades campaigning for writers of colour in British publishing.
